When you first started out, you were just stoked.embracing the entrepreneurial experience. You picked a company that seemed interesting. You were fired up, and proceeded to promote your business to the best of your ability. In the beginning you were most certain others would follow your lead and it would all prove worthwhile.

Time has passed and now you’re getting a little worried.

You’re not getting any takers. You’re not getting any feedback from your prospects. Most importantly you’re not making any money.

Not that you haven’t tried. You’ve done all the things that you were instructed to do. You wrote articles you networked on the popular social media sites (Twitter and Facebook). Unfortunately no matter how hard you work, no matter how many different techniques you try, none of it is working.

So you wonder…

Did I join the right company?

Could you have chosen a company that no one is interested in?

Could you in fact be wasting your time trying to keep your opportunity alive, when really the only sensible thing to do is junk it and find a better opportunity?

Below you will twelve questions that if answered sincerely will help you know if you are on track to become successful in the network marketing industry.

1. Is your  company a start-up?
2. How long has your company been in business?
3. Does the company have a good reputation?
4. Is the company in good standing with the Better Business Bureau?
5. Is the company part of the Direct Selling Association?
6. Does the company provide products and/or services that are in demand?
7. Are you a product of you company’s product and/or service?
8. Does the company have a physical office?
9. Does your company do business nationally or internationally?
10. Does the company have a good compensation plan?
11. Is your company’s compensation plan easy to follow?
12. How do you feel about the company and its products/services?

The answer to these questions will not render a hard and fast solution. However, what they will do is help you to understand the importance of maximizing your efforts. If any of your answers are not completely to your liking, or difficult to answer wholeheartedly support, it might be time to look elsewhere.

You have to understand that if you are not 100% sold on the company, their product and/or service, you’ll be building your financial future on a less than desirable basis. It has been said that if you do something you love you will never have to work hard at it.

Ask yourself, do you really want to build a foundation on an unproven business?

If you are hoping and wishing for your business to suddenly become prosperous based on the some outlandish prediction, I would advise you buy a lottery ticket hope for the best. It’s a lot easier and cheaper.

The bottom line is this. There are many opportunities out here. All of them sound great at in the beginning. If the truth is told, they all have some potential. But if you know without a shadow of a doubt that there are some issues that don’t sit well with you, it would be wise to look for another opportunity.

I am amazed at the vast amount of people who are in business that have no idea what their budgets are or their projected earnings.  Most companies spend a great deal of time preparing competitive commission plans. They want to give you the best return for your investment that they can possibly give. The least you could do is study them out and learn to understand them.  Understanding your budget will prepare you for the other essential associated with business such as sales and marketing tools.

If your sponsor is not well versed in the compensation plan, be sure that they can direct you to someone who is.  Comp plans and budgeting can be confusing for a lot of people but as a business owner it is your job to learn it, study it and live it. You are the leader of your team.  If you truly want to have success in network marketing you have to take charge of your career.

Many people depend on the person who sponsored them to be their lifeline in the business. Here is one thing that you must understand. Not everyone is a teacher. Just because the person who sponsored you abandons you or doesn’t hold weekly meetings is no reason for you to fail. There are far too many training tools available for you to make this excuse. If your sponsor is not leading find someone else in the company that is a leader. Take advantage of the company’s weekly phone calls and/or training events. If your company is not doing these things, than you should probably find a new company.

Most companies offer support and tools along with some other handy items to help you to succeed such as a personalized websites, marketing supplies, conferences calls and conference meetings.

As I stated earlier you have to spend money in order to make money. As a matter of fact, by law you have to spend money in your network marketing business in order to earn commissions. That is why auto ship is a vital part of the equation. Not doing so would be treading the thin pyramid scheme line. This goes back to something else that I mentioned, which is that fact that you want your product and/or service to be something that you are passionate about. If it’s something you want to use you won’t mind the monthly cost. The beauty of it all is that after you secure a couple of customers the monthly expense is usually covered by them.

The bottom line is this, if you have time, determination, relationship skills, and you’ve done your homework, you might just love the endless possibilities found in the world of Network Marketing. The greatest benefit of all is in the fact that once you’ve built a strong franchise, the financial rewards will continue for years to come.

So to finalize the question that was asked at the top of this article is network marketing a scam? Not for those who truly learn the business.

Is Network Marketing a SCAM?

On the surface the immediate answer would be yes.

But if you dig a little deeper you will find a more in-depth answer.

People are always looking for a way to earn extra money. They understand that the nothing is promised. They understand the fact that the economy will forever remain on a roller-coaster ride. For many the world of network marketing seems to be a very, cost effective way to earn a little extra, and to break free from this viscous cycle.

Network marketing is a proven way to generate extra revenue for your household. But don’t invest until you put plenty of time and research into your choices. Also know that it’s highly unlikely that you will recoup your investment of time and money very quickly. Starting your own network marketing business is like any other business venture, it doesn’t pay off overnight.

Patience is the key, along with understanding and knowledge. Together these three components will have you living the “Rock Star” lifestyle that you so richly deserve.

The very first thing that you must consider is that you are embarking on an independent, entrepreneurial venture. In other words you have to understand that network marketing  is a business. Granted, you can work the business on a part time basis, but you shouldn’t treat it as if it was a hobby.  I will guarantee you that you won’t get very far that way.  Consider this, a hobby is something that you do in your spare time, not your part time. There is a difference.

The money does not come easily or overnight so if you want to reap the true benefits, you must put in the time.

There is one important thing to remember, that is to make sure you have chosen a product and/or service that you can relate to, one that you are passionate about. The idea here is that once you believe in the product and/or service, it will be easy to tell others about it.

The flip side of the coin is that while it takes time to build your business, you can enjoy the benefits of the company’s product and/or services for yourself.

For the past few months I have been a mission. Most people would say that I bit off more than I could chew. But I was determined to complete the goals that I set out to accomplish. My goal was to release two new books and part one of my Payneless Advice Motivation Mix audio series. I have completed all but one of these goals, and I am proud to say that the final phase of my goals will be completed in the next few weeks.

However that is not what this article is about.  This article is about someone taking the time to really care about me. I have always been taught that when you find someone who cares, life can become much easier.

Let me explain…

During my several months of hibernation, while working diligently in my task closet, I got an email from someone I didn’t know. In fact, I had never heard their name mentioned before. The email was short and to the point. It simply said, “Hey Donald, I see you and I are part of the same business. My wife and I thought we would reach out to some of the people in our down line…let’s chat this week…”  This might sound like a typical message but it wasn’t.

On the day that I finally had a chance to talk I discover that all he wanted to do was check in on me and see if it was something he could help me with.  He was concerned because he noticed that I really hadn’t mentioned the business in quite a while.

He asked me if I was familiar with some of the changes going on in the company. I explained that I had been very busy and was unaware of any changes. With that he and his wife offered to takes some time and personally assist me, and help me catch up on everything. With that we spent several hours on the phone.

During the course of the call I discovered that he was not part of my down line at all! He was just a guy who wanted to help. Now that’s what I call networking!

Do you have someone in your company that simply wants to see that you remain successful?

Do you care about others outside of your team?

The bottom line is that this was a valuable lesson for me. First and foremost I realized that I am part of a company that has some truly caring individuals. I was also reassured that if you give, others will freely give to you.

I am truly grateful. He didn’t have to reach out to me the way he did but I think he understood that I still have more to offer the world. He was right!

I am diligently working on completing my other task but I am once again focused on building and excelling in my business.

In order to succeed you must take the limits off.

Have you ever heard someone say, “An Eskimo doesn’t need ice” or that “A vegetarian doesn’t need a side of beef?” Both of these statements sound obvious enough but yet many people miss this point on a daily basis.

I was recently approached by someone who wanted me to take a look at their “New and exciting” product. One quick glance at what he had to offer was all I needed to know that the product wasn’t for me. In fact, I wasn’t even able to give him a referral because the product wasn’t one that most of my contacts could use.

As a musician I would often tell the people that I played with that “I group is only as good as their sound.” In other words if we had poor equipment, no matter how well we played our true sound would never come through.

The same holds true with your product and/or service. In other words, your success is only as good as the product and/or service. There should be no limitations. The moment you put a cap or a limitation on your product or service becomes the moment that you put a cap on your universal success.

The bottom line is this; sure there are products and services that only cater to a specific niche or genre. However it should be understood that those markets are flooded with tons of people trying to sell this same market. In order to break away from that crowd you must have a viable product or service that is good for the masses.

Have you ever seen the reality show “Shark Tank?” On this show would be inventors step in front several well-respected entrepreneurs who are looking for new ideas to invest in. Some of the ideas on the show seemed like sure shot winners but for some reason or another, the panel of entrepreneurs would turn them down.

It was up to the inventor to look beyond the intimidation factor of the panel. The panel wanted to invest so they could expand their businesses and the inventor’s job was to help them see how this could be done.

In the inventors eyes the panel was nothing more than a prospect. In the panels eyes the inventor was a solution to the reason they were there in the first place.

One particular featured a guy who had produced a tablet that was a cross between a smartphone and a laptop. Unfortunately he was turned away because the sharks said the smartphone served that purpose. In fact they told him that he was a little late in the game producing a product like that. 

I’m pretty sure the guy kicked himself in the head when he discovered that Steve Jobs would later create the i-Pad several months later.

You are the dreamer. You hold the keys to solving other people problems. This gives you the right to take an in-charge type posture. People seek out experts because they have the answers. One of the most important things to remember is that the world wants what you have to offer.

My message today is simple it simply says, “Follow your dreams!” Allow your dreams to sit dormant is like fig tree that bares no fruit. A fig tree that produces no fruit will show all the signs, it will be strong a sturdy, full of foliage but unless it produces fruit it is of no use to anyone. The same holds true for you if you are not going to follow your dreams and produce your fruit it will be of no use to anyone. Napoleon Hill said it best when he said, “Success requires no apologies. Failure permits no alibis.” The bottom line is that you must pursue your dreams and eliminate regrets. Remember, “Life is what you make it.”

Every would-be company starts out this way. They have all the hype, all the tools and all the momentum. Yet over 90% of the people who sign on fail. If everything is in place, how could this be? A company can have a complete back office, promotional tools and videos, but that is not enough to ensure your success.

Network marketing is a marathon, not a get rich quick scenario. Network marketing has created a great opportunity for those looking to get into a solid home-based business. The benefits are great and so is the pay. However, one must understand every aspect of being in business if they want to truly be successful in the network marketing industry.

Most people start a home based business because they need extra or because they need to pay down some type of debt. But if a person refuses to learn how to budget, manage and become completely immerse in business etiquette, they will remain in constant survival mode.

The bottom line is that you have found a great company. All the planets have aligned telling you that, “this is the one you have been waiting for.” Now it’s up to you to become the best entrepreneur that you could possibly be.
